A bin vent is typically placed on top of storage silos, bins, mixers, and other dust-generating areas in your facility. The proximity to these storage bins reduces the need for complex ductwork that you can see with other dust collection systems. Additionally, bin vents don’t usually include a hopper, which allows for a more compact footprint.

As the materials are discharged into a silo, the air occupying the space must now somehow escape. However, when the heavier matter falls to the bottom of the silo, lighter, finer particles float in the air at the top of the storage bin. Letting this dirty air escape would lead to a loss in material and could potentially emit substances into the air that could harm the environment.

How Does a Bin Vent Dust Collector Work?

A fan on the system exterior pulls the dirty air from the silo into the bin vent, where it passes through the rows of filters. As a result, dust and particulate matter are blocked and accumulate on the exterior of the filter media. After this, the clean air is expelled outside the bin vent and into the environment, free of particulate matter.

An automated pulse jet system will blast compressed air into the filters to shake free all the dust and debris accumulated on the filter’s exterior. Like any dust collection system, this automated cleaning system can improve your filter media’s efficiency, performance, and lifetime and save you money during operation.

Bin vents can be set up and manufactured to handle different volumes of air filtration. Additionally, depending on the setup of your system, you may be able to forego the purchase of a new fan to handle the bin vent filtration, using an existing fan or blower instead.
